HAUNTED HOUSES – FACT OR FICTION Amityville House - USA The Amityville Horror, a movie based on the events that horrified and frightened the Lutz family when they moved into their dream home at Amityville, Long Island in 1975 and then fled one month later, leaving all their possessions behind. The history of darkness in Amityville began in 1974 when Ronald DeFeo Junior, walked up the stairs to the second floor of his family home and methodically killed his parents, two brother and two sisters whilst they were sleeping. He then had a shower, got ready for work and pretended that nothing had happened. He was eventually prosecuted and found guilty for the cold blooded murder of his six family members and is still serving his life time sentence today. Over one year later, George and Kathy Lutz moved into the Amityville House and almost immediately began to notice strange things in the house. Black gooey substance dripping from the walls, demonic faces appearing in the kitchen window, voices screaming they will never get out. The Lutz’s claimed they saw one of the murdered victim’s faces appearing all over the house and Kathy claimed that she levitated in the family room. One month later the Lutz’s fled the house and left everything behind. Many books have been written about the Amityville House and the events that took place during the summer of 1975. Critics have claimed it was a hoax by the Lutz family who were looking for a way to make money profiting from their haunting scam and creating a media frenzy about the event. Yet the Lutz’s actually made little or no money from the whole incident and just after they fled the house nine paranormal investigators went to the house and reported that yes, there were demonic spirits living in the house. Two of these investigators are well known in the paranormal field and have a detailed web site that you can visit which gives a very accurate and spooky account of the findings in the Amityville House at Long Island. Decide for yourself! Woodchester Mansion – UK In 1868, workers put down their tools and walked away from the unfinished mansion after 16 long hard years. Nobody knows the answer as to why this Victorian Gothic Mansion was mysteriously abandoned. Gargoyle statues line the walls of the mansion and peer strangely towards all those who dare to enter. The rooms emanate an eerie glow and staff who work at the mansion have reported to hearing strange noises, banging and voices. The Mansion is generally regarded as one of the most haunted places in England and broadcasted séances during the night by well know mediums reported several murders had been committed at Woodchester, including a servant girl and another builder around 1840. Other mediums and clairvoyants have also reported to have seen a headless horse and images of a floating coffin pass by them as they walked through the cursed mansion. Edinburgh Castle – Scotland Edinburgh Castle is generally considered one of the most haunted spots in Scotland. It has attracted so much public interest that in 2001 a group of volunteers led by a prominent psychologist from Hertfordshire University stayed at the castle to investigate the hauntings. Reports of icy cold temperatures in the cells of the dungeons below the castle were documented by the volunteers. Others claimed to feel icy hands grab them, whisperings and screams coming from the walls, and other visitors to the castle have reported to see the ghost of a headless drummer and a piper on the battlements. |
